The Agnus Dei

The image embroidered on this hoodie comes from Agnus Dei, a painting by the Spanish artist Francisco de Zurbarán. It shows a young lamb lying with its legs tied, alone against a dark background. The composition is simple, quiet and almost without decoration.

In Christian tradition, the lamb represents innocence, sacrifice and Christ. Zurbarán painted the animal with great realism, but the image is more than a study of a lamb. Its stillness, vulnerability and dramatic light give it a powerful emotional presence.

Transformed into embroidery, the image keeps this balance between tenderness and severity. Removed from the painting and placed on an everyday piece, the lamb becomes a small, mysterious symbol—recognisable even without knowing its original religious meaning.
